The University of Michigan brings its considerable strengths in psychiatric, substance use and addiction research to address the contributions of mental health and illness to the global burden of disease with a major investment in capacity building in Poland and other parts of Eastern Europe.
Directed by Professor Robert Zucker, The International Collaborative Substance Abuse Research Training Program is a joint venture between the University of Michigan Addiction Research Center and the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology in Warsaw, Poland supported by the Fogarty International Center and the National Institute on Drug Abuse. The program offers substance abuse research training opportunities to post-doctoral scientists and physician-researchers from Poland and supports year-long fellowships in Ann Arbor, as well as a series of advanced research training workshops and seminars held annually, in Poland. The substance abuse research workshop/seminar program also serves other basic science and clinical researchers throughout Eastern Europe.
