UM’s Global Health Research and Training Initiative (UM-GHRT), established in 2005 with funding from the University of Michigan and the National Institutes of Health Fogarty International Center, built on these assets to support and organize multidisciplinary educational and research programs throughout the University that help to make Michigan a national leader in the field of global health. UM-GHRT met its goals to:
The activities and programs of the UM-GHRT served broad constituencies across the campus by bringing together faculty and students from the social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and professional programs to ensure that our students graduate with an appreciation of the complex interaction between health and society and the skills to function effectively on multidisciplinary research, policy and programmatic teams. UM-GHRT also contributed to training professionals in a variety of health fields by providing support to and helping to integrate Michigan’s graduate programs, many of which are among the most highly regarded in the country, and supports innovative and advanced faculty research in global health.
