Among the greatest assets of the University of Michigan are an outstanding faculty with broad international health expertise and experience, and an extensive network of global health institutional partners. UM’s Global Health Research and Training Initiative (UM-GHRT), established in 2005 with funding from the University of Michigan and the National Institutes of Health Fogarty International Center, builds on these assets to support and organize multidisciplinary educational and research programs throughout the University that help to make Michigan a national leader in the field of global health. To extend the impact of these scholarly activities, UM-GHRT also organizes public programs that place discussion of global health issues at the forefront of the University’s mission.
UM-GHRT’s goals are to:
The activities and programs of the UM-GHRT serve broad constituencies across the campus by bringing together faculty and students from the social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and professional programs to ensure that our students graduate with an appreciation of the complex interaction between health and society and the skills to function effectively on multidisciplinary research, policy an d programmatic teams. UM-GHRT also contributes to training professionals in a variety of health fields by providing support to and helping to integrate Michigan’s graduate programs, many of which are among the most highly regarded in the country, and supports innovative and advanced faculty research in global health.
The assistance of private contributors is required to continue and expand upon this important work. The following are some of the areas in which we have established program initiatives and for which financial support will enable us to maintain and enhance Michigan’s deserved reputation as a leader in international education:
A number of our constituent units have also identified specific programs in global health that require additional support. For information on these program please contact the following individuals.
